Many of us mothers can have a difficult time during the postpartum period with so many changes. Our bodies dramatically change, and we now have these sweet but very dependent babies that need us around the clock. With our bodies many of us—myself included—have body image concerns post-pregnancy. Even though we appreciate everything our bodies have done for us and our babies, it can be not easy to look at ourselves in the mirror. We don’t recognize that person or body anymore. And with a new baby, finding the time to take care of ourselves can also be challenging. It’s a big transition.

Today Dr. Susan Albers is chatting with us about mindful eating, what it is, and how it can help us in the fourth trimester. Dr. Susan Albers is a New York Times best-selling author and a clinical psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Albers specializes in eating issues, weight loss, body image concerns, and mindfulness. After obtaining her masters and doctorate degree from the University of Denver, Dr. Albers completed an APA internship at the University of Notre Dame and a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University.

Dr. Albers conducts mindful eating workshops across the country, and she is the author of six mindful eating books, including her latest that came out on December 24th, Hanger Management: Master Your Hunger and Improve Your Mood, Mind, and Relationships.

In today’s podcast episode, Dr. Albers gives us her five tips on mindful eating during the postpartum time that can help our minds and heal our bodies.
